Gilmary bio

Gilmary was born and raised in Chicago; north-side, Irish Catholic which means she understands guilt. She’s a Cub fan, which means she understands grief. She is number seven out of eight kids, (six boys, two girls) which means she knows how to duck a punch.

Her husband says she makes the best toast on the planet. “If there were a toast making contest, honey, you would be the champion!” Paul Andrews, husband. (Most other food-stuffs coming out of her kitchen are politely declined.)

An actor in Chicago for most of her adult life, Gilmary ran her own theater company for many years in addition to working in commercials and industrial films. While shooting a Gatorade commercial (Be Like Mike) Michael Jordan once bounced a basketball off of her head! (Although, that shot didn’t make it to the commercial, you can click on the link here and watch the original 60 second commercial.  That's her with the number 6 on her shirt).  www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0AGiq9j_Ak&NR=1. She is the recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Citation for Ensemble work along with having performed in many other Jeff Recommended and/or Recipient shows.

The first song she learned to play on the guitar was Gypsy Rover. Her brother, Chris taught her the chords when she was eleven years old. She still remembers the chords and lyrics to The King of Glory, from her days singing in the choir at the Saturday night guitar mass. When she was only four years old, her brother Mark crashed a violin over her head, pretending to be the Hannah-Barbara cartoon character, El Kabong. So, it’s safe to say that music has always been a part of her life, in one way or another.

Gil - Congrats on the new CD! Bets and I were donning our Cubs best when the interview aired. We really enjoyed the music and discussion. Thanks for the very pleasant surprise. Oh, and keep your head still. T & B

Honestly, I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I heard you sing out (on Rick Kogan, WGN MAY 10) of just how good it is to be dead. Puts the FUN into funeral! I'm going out today to get myself a FUN "departure" outfit and have my "box" wired up to belt out that tune as friends come for a "last look" or better yet, to make sure, I am in fact DEAD! Have a very funny day...Carol Janc

Gilly - Great stuff! When Janey is in my car she always requests your CD and already knows most of the words. Kevin loves Tokyo stomp. As for toast (the best snack food ever)maybe a throw down with Bobby Flay?

I love this! A place for all of Gil's groupies to congregate! I think I'll sell my "I  Gilmary" t-shirts here! Ditto what everyone else has said - CUBED! You are awesome Gil and even though I have worn your cd out already, I remain consistently amazed and humbled by your talent! I've been thinking of words that rhyme with June, in case you want to write a song about me . . . :D

Congratulations on your new CD. You sound wonderful! I wish I could be there for your release party. Please give my best to "Dazzle" and Mark. Also to Randy, Don and Megon if you see them. I have a picture of Megon (from "Suburbs of Heaven")on my Wall of Fame at home. Looks like I'll have to find a spot for you. By the way, in addition to his many musical accomplishments, Bill Porter was an early contributor to Al Day's warped sense of humor. Please tell Ann's friend Barb that there is no such thing as a "disgustingly rich" folkie. Trust me.

Dear Gil, Ann sent me your CD and I was absolutely amazed that you are not a tremendously famous and disgustingly rich folk singer/entertainer/jet-setter/judge on American Idol/etc. Very moving; I was going to listen to it once to be courteous and tell Ann that yes I heard your sister, such a fine CD, but I listened to it many times and found it spoke to me again and again. You have a rare gift, not just with voice but with a lovely heart. I don't believe you could be as wonderful as my long-time friend Ann, but maybe almost. I wish you great success and many blessings. The site looks great and I didn't find a single typo. You never cease to amaze me. Also, for all those who may doubt it, I can attest to your toast making abilities. Maybe the Food Network has a Toast Challenge you could enter. Love the bios. Maybe you and B-Dazzle should include one of his offerings on the next go-around. Keep on strumming.

Tokyo Stomp! Godzilla gets a video! A must for any true blue Godzilla fan.
My good friend, Rez, (one of the famous City Girls), put this together in her spare time. Hope you like it! It made me laugh out loud - but then again, I am easily amused.
